Born in South Africa, Stefan Simchowitz is a Los Angeles based art dealer whose reputation in the art world precedes him. Having helmed multiple brick and mortar galleries and incubated dozens of up-and-coming painters and sculptors, Stefan has immersed himself in the Los Angeles art space and more recently galvanized his American citizenship by running for California Senate. We sat down with Stefan at his Hill House residence and gallery space compound in Pasadena. We discussed his upbringing, plans for the future, ideas about contemporary art, senate run and ate ice cream. One thing that is immediately apparent when speaking with Stefan was his generosity with his time. Stefan has been called the “Trump” of the art world for his bullish buying and selling practices, his campaign in California politics as a republican the cherry on top.
